Bears

“I have more cement than a truck” Urban bear in concrete.

Before leaving the concrete prairie of Grupo Bondi, "Cementoso" passed through our lives like a bear protecting us. An urban teddy bear, a soft toy that was probably protecting us from the elements and from our own fears. Tenderness is often only associated with the softness of love, “the little heart,” but Cementoso seems to generate its antithesis: a bear that does not protect, threatening, enlarged: an anguish- ing bear. This contradiction between what is disturbing and what is comfortable leads to Freud’s concept of the Unheim- lich, where what is frightening is associated with something that belonged to our psychic life and has become strange through repression. Art is one of the tools through which we can convey what is disturbing into something wonderful, transforming anguish into an aesthetic experience. "Cementoso" thus appears as a representation of love, an allegory. Because life is hard, but not that hard.

Giants

PH: Grupo Bondi // Dagurke // Octavio Cosacov

A huge concrete bear, colossal, magnified. Soft and hard at the same time, it invites us to hug it, stroke it, climb on it, run around it, play with it. The Concrete Bears are friendly sculptures that surprise with their texture and the quality of their finish.
It begs us to climb and touch it, and when we do, the mystery is automatically revealed: magnificent and imposing, it reveals itself to be hard, solid, and infinite.
